Wedding gift spending in America is ridiculous.

A couple decides to get married and it's expected that they'll receive a load of loot from all their family and friends.

It's expected that those around them must go out and spend big.

The whole thing is mindless.

It's almost as though the people partaking in this exercise are brainwashed.

And you know what?

They are brainwashed.

The movie industry helps with this.

The news helps with this.

The commercials help with this.

Consumerism has gotten out of hand and weddings are a big part of this problem.

When did it become a requirement that a wedding must be an affair that puts families in debt to pull off and creates unneeded expenses for other loved ones?
